WHY CHOOSE 2.4 GHZ R/C?
THE SIMPLE ANSWER IS. FANTASTIC RANGE & LOW LOW COST!!!
The 5/6 channel 2.4 GHz R/C systems are readily available and are usually very low cost.
These can be used for as many locos as you wish.
All Digital Proportional (DP) R/C systems work more or less identically for our intents and purposes.
One Electronic R/C throttle programme was written to suit all DP R/C systems available Worldwide.
DP R/C has quite powerful transmitters compared to the small TX handpieces. They have a huge 200’ - 500’ range.
BELTROL ESC’s can mix electronic throttles w/regular servos for animated features controlled by the TX sticks.
So a 5 Channel 2.4 GHz R/C set can control performance programming, speed, direction, 4 x sound triggers. A six channel rig will have another two spare functions. Maybe for uncoupling.
BELTROL R/C IS AVAILABLE IN TWO OPERATING VERSIONS.
Designed specifically as a low cost entry level R/C system.
FEATURES OF A BELTROL-2 R/C ESC.
BELTROL-2 takes advantage of low cost, legal for ground control, 5 channel 2.4 GHz R/C. Expect incredible range and interference free operation. No more glitching. EVER!!!
BELTROL-2 is more than a high quality ESC. It is a new concept on how to operate LS locos.
BELTROL-2 has features no other Radio Control system offers for Large Scale locos.
BELTROL-2 is the perfect way to realistically control Large Scale locos. Precise 32 click, 256 step speed control. With DIGITAL PROPORTIONAL (DP) Speed control the speed you select is exactly what you will get.
BELTROL-2 is the ONLY R/C system with realistic Brake Apply & Brake Release functions.
Apply as little or as much momentum as you wish. Variable as you actually operate.
BELTROL-2 uses positive feel control levers with 90º movement, to operate your locos.
No pushbuttons or “so called” knobs with no end stop commonly used by DCC hand pieces.
BELTROL-2 allows an operator to “Bind” any number of suitable RX’s to the TX. Add as many locos to a loco consist as you wish. Provided the locos are speed matched, they will all perform exactly the same. To swap locos between multiple TX’s simply re-bind each loco to a new TX.
BELTROL-2 locomotive speed matching is much simpler than either DCC or CREST® TE.
Set the start speed and top speed using the throttle stick to precisely select the speed. Then use the direction stick to lock that speed into the ESC memory.
BELTROL-2 maximum speed can be set so children can’t drive the trains too fast.
BELTROL-2 ESC’s can be easily installed in brass locos. No special antennas needed.
BELTROL-2 default start direction can be reversed for back to back running when MU’ed.
BELTROL-2 uses the super reliable ESC’s to deliver power to locos.
BELTROL-2 is ideal for Live Steamers who want to use the same type of stick operated control system for their battery powered diesel locos, as they use for their steam locos.
BELTROL-2 is designed for battery or track power. Using a constant track voltage for power may require adequate capacitance for filtering.
BELTROL-2 is confident this will be the control system of choice for serious operators of Large Scale locos.
THE BELTROL ONE YEAR GUARANTEE IS CONDITIONAL ON THE ESC BEING INSTALLED AS PER THE BELTROL INSTRUCTIONS. DAMAGE CAUSED BY MISUSE WILL BE OBVIOUS TO US & IS NOT GUARANTEED.
IF YOU BLOW IT UP & TELL US HOW YOU DID IT, WE MAY WARRANT THE ITEM ANYWAY.

THE BELTROL-2 ESC’s.
BELTROL-2 ESC pcb’s are smallish for tight fit situations, low cost and have diode protection on the power IN circuit.
Unlike our competitors we even provide the plug in servo cable(s). Special motor “noise” suppression is not required.
Unlike some other systems, the 2.4 GHz TX can be switched off during use to save TX battery life.
RUN AS MANY LOCOS AS YOU LIKE WITH ONE TX.
Save the cost of a new TX by simply adding an RX + BELTROL ESC combo to a new loco.
Locos can be operated one at a time, or, when performance matched, consisted together anywhere in the train.
SOME INSTALLATION OPTIONS
1. TRAIL CARS. The simplest form of installation is where the batteries and R/C are carried in a trail car. The ESC output is fed through a connecting cable to the loco. This means the loco always has a trail car attached which is fine for basic running, but can be a problem when switching operations are envisaged. If this is what you want to do, the simplest method of installation is to use a BELTROL ESC’s plus, a BIK-TC-5/10 kit. Most trail car installs don’t use sound.2. INTEGRAL TRAIL CARS. The tender of a loco is in reality an INTEGRAL TRAIL CAR.
With Intergral Trail Cars you have to take into consideration whether or not you want to have directional constant brightness lighting and/or a sound system.
Use up to a 3 amps ESC for small or low current draw tender locos such as the Bachmann Big Hauler series.
A 6 amps ESC will be required big haulage capacity locos such as the AC Mallet & USAT Big Boy.
3. ALL ON BOARD. When space permits the most desirable way of installing battery R/C is with all the equipment fitted on board a loco. This can be either a tank type loco or a diesel. As a rough guide use a 3 amp ESC for small two truck diesels up to say, a GP38 or RS-3. Bigger 3 axles per truck diesels, such as the Dash-9 or SD40-2, use a 6 amp ESC.
Again, whether or not you want sound will determine which is the best system for your needs.
4. PLUG’N’PLAY ON-BOARD. The BTL2-PnP series are designed for the AristoCraft® (AC) & Bachmann® locos with a PnP socket. Rated at 3 amps they are ideal for Bachmann® & most AC 4 axle locos.
It is possible to use them with the AC -9, E-8 & SD-45. Fan cooling may be needed. Lighting outputs are built in.
WHAT BATTERY or TRACK VOLTAGE?
Do not use a greater voltage than is needed for a realistic top speed. Excess voltage is wasted in the form of heat.
N.B. All freshly charged battery packs measure more voltage than stated on the pack. See price lists for voltage ranges.
Min Minimum, N Nominal voltage stated on battery. This nominated voltage is the absolute maximum you can use.
MAXIMISING RANGE.
The R/C receiver is connected to the ESC with plug in servo leads to enable placement away from other components such as speaker magnets. The antenna(s) can be located anywhere in plastic locos.
The antenna must be able to “see” outside the loco. Locos made of metal may require the antenna be external.
2.4 Ghz R/C receivers have extremely small antennas & are not susceptible to motor “noise” RFI.
INSTALLATION KITS.
All battery R/C installations require roughly the same sort of equipment. As well as the receivers, ESC’s & batteries, you will need an ON-OFF switch, charging jack & fuse etc.
BELTROL offers a range of installation kits with the above features. Installation is simplified & eliminates a lot of wiring.
BELTROL installation kits such as the BIK-U3/6 feature a built in charge jack for charging batteries in situ.
Use the same jack to extend run times by plugging in extra batteries carried in a trail car. Multiple sets for all day running.
